Dream… Dream… Dream…
Daydreams, Visions, Musings, Fantasies… Imagination… Clues to your inner life. When they come unbidden, what message do they bring you? What desire or need would they fulfill? Do you pay attention to the kernel of truth hidden within them? They beg the questions: What do I really, really want? What would make me happy?
Why have we been taught to discount our daydreams, or worse yet, chastised for having them? Daydreams are wonderful! Daydreams tap into our inner realm… that deep sixth sense we all have but ignore most of the time. It is healthy to daydream. It sets our imagination free and gives it the space to explore. Creativity is born there… in the quiet silence of our inner world.
Years ago I used to lie out in the lush grass under the trees behind our house and just gaze at the canopy of sun dappled leaves above me… just daydreaming. I always had amazing thoughts, feelings, observations and creative ideas just flow to me. My inner vision was beautiful… and I felt very in tune with myself and everything around me. I would keep a small notebook nearby to jot down the inspirations and ideas in real time as I received them. As I write this I am sitting outside on a brilliant sunlit day with the sound of a fountain and amidst beautiful flowers and trees.
Remember when you were younger… how daydreaming was so natural to you then. Take some time to be alone and really relax. Let everything go… even if it’s just for fifteen minutes. Seek out someplace beautiful and peaceful… near a window where you can see the sky or watch the rain fall, or out in nature by trees, flowers or water. Wherever you find your sweet spot, allow yourself to settle down and relax… and invite your mind to wander. Ask yourself: What do I need right now? What will make me feel happy? Don’t effort. Just be still and listen. Let your mind’s eye offer it’s own images and feel your emotions and the sensations in your body. Pay attention as your Inner Being shows you your truth. Honor yourself by acknowledging whatever need or desire is there. Take time often to gift yourself in this way. It can be life changing. Shakespeare said it best…
“To Thine Own Self Be True”
